Japan’s first zero-energy hotel, ITOMACHI HOTEL 0, opens in Saijo, Ehime. Designed by Kengo Kuma

Advantech, a company involved in renewable energy, regional development, and urban planning projects, and GOODTIME, a hotel planning company, will open “ITOMACHI HOTEL 0” in May. The hotel will have 57 guest rooms.

ITOMACHI HOTEL 0 is a zero-energy hotel that consumes virtually no electric energy in its operations. It is the first hotel in Japan to be certified as a “ZEB” hotel (a building that aims to achieve a comfortable indoor environment while reducing the annual primary energy consumption of the building to zero) by the Ministry of the Environment. By equipping the building with energy-saving and energy-creating functions at the same time, the hotel has achieved virtually zero power consumption.

ITOMACHI HOTEL 0 will be constructed on the “Itomachi” site in Saijo City. The hotel will be designed by Kengo Kuma, who designed the New National Stadium and other facilities.
