Metropolitan Expressway and NEXCO East Japan are calling attention to the possibility of icy road surfaces in the Kanto region on January 6-7.
Late in the evening of January 6 through the morning of January 7 and in the evening of January 7, a low-pressure system is forecast to bring precipitation to the plains of the Kanto region, with the possibility of temporary snow and sleet. Snowfall is also expected in the Kanto region during the daytime on January 7.
On highways, the occurrence of even one vehicle unable to drive on its own is likely to lead to long traffic jams and road closures. Therefore, drivers are required to install winter tires and carry tire chains in case of sudden snowfall or icing. In particular, chains are required when driving on snow-covered roads.
