KDDI “KDDI XR Cross Portal” overlays tourist information on actual scenery with AR.

KDDI has launched the KDDI XR Cross Portal service, which allows local governments and companies to create and distribute AR/VR content.

In addition to displaying information on tourist attractions and campaigns in AR overlaid on actual scenery at tourist attractions and commercial facilities, VR content can be created and distributed for the same experience at home. It is now possible to provide content utilizing AR and VR without spending time and money on the development of original applications and content creation.

VPS (Visual Positioning System) technology is used for the local AR experience. The system estimates the user’s location by simply capturing the scenery with a camera, without reading any codes or markers, and displays AR content overlaid on the actual location.
