Airbnb, South Korea, U.S., Hong Kong, and Australia are the top regions of residence for guests searching for Japan; ban on accepting individual travelers from overseas lifted on October 11.

Airbnb has announced the countries/regions of residence and search terms of the most frequently searched guests for accommodations in Japan, in response to the Japanese government’s lifting of the cap on the number of visitors, exemptions from obtaining short-term visas, and acceptance of individual travelers, effective October 11.

The survey found that the largest number of searches were conducted by guests residing in South Korea, the U.S., Hong Kong, and Australia, and that the top travel destinations in Japan were Osaka, Tokyo, and Shinjuku. The survey was based on searches conducted on September 23 (Japan time), the day after the government announced the removal of the cap on the number of visitors to Japan.
