Signing of Yen Loan Agreement for Nepal: Contributing to the stabilization and efficiency of electricity supply by improving the power transmission and distribution network in urban areas

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of Nepal on September 21 in Kathmandu for a loan of up to 15,901 million yen for the “Urban Power Transmission and Distribution Network Development Project.

This project is a sector loan to develop power transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks in the country’s major urban areas (Pokhara City and Kathmandu Metropolitan Area are candidate sites). After the start of consulting services, the consultant and the executing agency will discuss the selection of sub-projects based on the selection criteria such as project effectiveness, economic feasibility, and environmental and social impacts. The project aims to stabilize and improve the efficiency of electricity supply in the target cities, and will contribute to Goal 7 (Ensure access to sustainable modern energy), Goal 8 (Sustainable, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth), and Goal 9 (Build resilient infrastructure) of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals).
