Emergency Relief Aid for Drought Victims in the Republic of Kiribati

In response to a request from the government of the Republic of Kiribati, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide emergency relief supplies as follows.

In Kiribati, rainfall has been well below the average monthly rainfall for over the past 19 months, and the intake system at the Bonliki intake site, the source of water for the capital city of South Tarawa, has been forced to restrict water intake due to salinization of the groundwater. As a result, on June 11, 2022, the government of the Republic of Kiribati issued a National Disaster Declaration for the entire country due to drought damage.
