Basra Oil Refinery Project (Phase III)

Iraq’s oil sector is a key industry, accounting for more than 90% of national revenue. On the other hand, due to the capacity decline of existing refining facilities due to war damage and aging, as well as the unstable political and security situation, there has not been sufficient investment in the construction and renovation of new refineries. As a result, despite being an oil-producing country, Iraq is forced to import petroleum products from other countries. This project will contribute to the economic and social reconstruction of Iraq by improving the quality of petroleum products, reducing the gap between supply and demand, and curbing the outflow of foreign currency by installing a new fluid catalytic cracking unit and a light oil hydrodesulfurization unit at the existing Basra refinery in Basrah province in southern Iraq. Through this project, the production of petroleum products with low sulfur content, which is a cause of air pollution, will become possible, contributing to the reduction of the environmental burden.
